RECAP: Bocce ball & financial basics in play at yes event

Young Executives of SMACNA joined us for our first YES event of the year at Pinstripes Oak Brook on March 27. The networking event kicked off with an informative presentation on financial essentials by Kelly Spengler, Executive Director of J.P. Morgan, and Caroline O’Brien, banker at J.P. Morgan Private Bank.

The duo offered helpful insights every adult should know about financial literacy, but many have never learned. Budgeting and spending habits, the importance of having a will, how to get started as a beginner investor and the role of discipline in saving to reach goals were all discussed.

At the end, Spengler and O’Brien recommended two books to participants interested in learning more about taking control of their financial futures:

• “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” — Differentiates between working for your money and having your money work for you.

• “The Psychology of Money” — A collection of short stories on how behavior and psychology influence financial decisions.

Following the presentation, attendees enjoyed networking and challenging each other to Bocce ball over complimentary drinks and appetizers.
